Frequently Asked Questions About the Coupon Manager

Introduction

The Coupon Manager is an included option for all online stores with Shop Manager access. It allows you to create, edit, and schedule coupon codes for your store. Please refer to the help article, How to Add or Edit Coupon Codes for Your Store, to learn how to create and work with coupon codes.

TIPS & IDEAS FOR USING COUPON CODES

  • Create codes that will not be easy to guess.
  • Create codes for specific patients or segments of patients, and promote them privately or with targeted emails or text messages.
  • Create a series of single-use codes (set Uses Per Coupon = 1, Uses per Customer = 0) and keep them at your front desk. You can use these to provide to a patient "just in case", for any reason that might come up or just to brighten someone's day.
  • Create a Friends & Family Code or Employee Code that your staff or others may use.
  • Create codes for influencers and brand ambassadors.
  • Create codes that are scheduled to be active for a limited time only that can be used for a flash sale or other short-term sale, to maximize the FOMO/urgency effect.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about the Coupon Manager.

Q. What's the difference between a Promotion that DermPRO configures and a Coupon Code that I configure using Coupon Manager?

A. Promotions that are created by DermPRO for a monthly special (for practices who are on a DermPRO Promo Plan), for a custom special/event, or one that you download from our Promo Library generally include promo verbiage, sale badges, automatic pricing configuration, and sometimes social posts, a store banner, and a checkout banner. The number of promotions you can activate at any given time is dependent on the plan you are on, or purchasable a la carte.

A coupon code that you create with Coupon Manager is just a coupon code and does not come with any visual indicators in your store or marketing features. Coupon codes will not be listed or advertised anywhere on your store. Coupon codes are free to create, and you may activate as many coupon codes simultaneously as you would like.

NOTE: Even if you have multiple coupon codes active on your store, purchasers on your store may only use one code per order.

Q. How can I promote Coupon Codes on my store?

A. Coupon codes are not promoted or listed anywhere in your store. If you want to promote a code in your store, you can make a banner and upload it to your store using Shop Manager > Settings > UI Configurations > Homepage Banner. Click the Upload Banner button to upload and then schedule your banner to be displayed on your store's homepage. Refer to the article, How to Upload or Edit Homepage Banners on Your Store, for more information about uploading banners to your store.

Q. What's the difference between deactivating and deleting a Code, and why would I do one versus the other?

A. When you delete a coupon code using the Trash Can Icon, it will be completely removed from your store. If you have created a code that was never activated, or one that was never used by anyone and you no longer want to keep the code in your Coupon Manager list, use the trash can icon to delete it. In all other cases, we recommend keeping and deactivating codes instead of deleting them. Keeping the code (i.e. deactivating instead of deleting) allows you to:

  • Potentially re-activate the code in the future
  • Be able to refer to the details of how the code is configured when you are reviewing reports/orders where the code was applied
  • Be able to refer to the details of how the code is configured to recreate similar codes

Q. If I create a Buy X Get Y code, how can I help my customers know what the offer is and take advantage of the offer?

A. You can promote your codes in email, text, social media, with signage and flyers in-office, on your website, and via banners on your store homepage. Specifically for Buy X Get Y style discounts, however, we suggest the following additional tips:

  • On both the X and Y items, edit the Short Description or the Additional Description with verbiage about the special offer.
  • Configure the X item to have the Y item as a Frequently Bought Together item and a Cross-Sell item, and vice-versa. That way, both items can be easily added to the cart at the same time. Refer to the article, How to Configure Related Products, to learn about doing these configurations.

Q. When my patient enters a code that should be valid, they get a Code not Valid error at checkout. Why?

A. The most common reason for codes that are configured correctly and should currently be valid being rejected at checkout is that the purchaser is not logged into a store account. If your coupon code has anything other than a '0' (unlimited usage) in the Uses per Customer field for the coupon code, then the coupon can only be used by a logged-in account holder. That is how your store tracks the number of uses per customer. Please remind your patient to log into a store account when using the code.
